FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 03/13/2025
Washington, D.C., March 13, 2025 – We are thrilled to announce that Shalanda H. Baker has joined SEEC Institute’s Board of Directors. A globally recognized leader in energy justice and climate policy, she brings invaluable expertise and vision to our mission of advancing bold, inclusive climate and clean energy solutions.
Ms. Baker is the inaugural Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action at the University of Michigan and previously served as the Senate-confirmed Director of the Office of Energy Justice and Equity at the U.S. Department of Energy. In this role, she was the architect of the agency’s equity and justice efforts and served as the nation’s first Deputy Director for Energy Justice in the Biden-Harris Administration.
“I'm so delighted to join SEEC Institute's phenomenal board. I'm honored to serve, and I look forward to bringing insights from my role as a policymaker to this terrific organization,” said Ms. Baker.
Her career has been dedicated to ensuring that the clean energy transition delivers economic opportunity and environmental benefits to all communities. As a legal scholar and policy expert, she has shaped the conversation around equitable energy policy, cofounded the Initiative for Energy Justice, and authored the book Revolutionary Power: An Activist’s Guide to the Energy Transition.
“Shalanda Baker’s expertise in energy justice, climate policy, and equitable economic solutions makes her an invaluable addition to our board,” said Max Frankel, Executive Director of SEEC Institute. “Her leadership will strengthen our efforts to drive bold climate action while building an economy that is both thriving and sustainable.”
